On Sunday 19th June in the UK it will be Father’s Day and up and down the country children will be showing their appreciation and love for their dads by way of cards, gifts and maybe a family day out.
Now you maybe wondering why on earth Im doing this post todayand what the hell it has to do with business and entrepreneurship?
The answer is simple I decided to write it because, as my sister says “I can” but also because my father has a huge influence in my life and ultimately in my business too.
The importance of having a mentor cannot be stressed enough and I have been extremely fortunate to find the best mentor for me in Michelle Dale, founder of The VA Apprentice with whom I have completed a life changing journey over the last few months and gained a true friendship.
Finding yourself a highly effective mentor (if you don’t have one, find one now!) someone who has walked the walk, who is actually achieving the success and has the business ethos that you wish to re-create in your own empire is phenomenal.
So how does this relate to my father? Well because along with a mentor you would do well to have a support network as well. My father is without doubt my best friend, my guide, my rock and sounding board for new thoughts and ideas. Without him I would not be the person I am today and that is why I felt that I wanted to write this post, made more poignant by the fact that father’s day is nearly upon us.
When I started on my journey into virtual assistance I will never forget the words my dad said to me ….. “I don’t pretend to understand what it is your doing (ie the technology) but the fact that you are working so hard at it and enjoy it so much is enough for me to know you are doing the right thing”. Now that is what I am talking about .. no matter what situations I face he is always there, not always offering an opinion or telling me what he thinks I should do, but supporting, understanding and motivating me, truly wanting me to succeed as much as I do.
Whilst it is vitally important that you have your own self belief and motivation there are times when we all just need someone to turn to and verbalise our thoughts, our ideas what our goals and dreams are as well as giving us a well aimed kick up the rear if we are just being plain irrational – that person is my father.
To father’s wherever you are, there is a saying that goes something like this … to the world you may be someone, but to someone you may just be the world.
Happy Fathers Day Dad – you are the greatest !! x
